Investigating the mediating role of strategic flexibility in the relationship between distributed leadership and business model innovation: emphasizing the moderating role of environmental dynamics

Abstract

Objective: This paper's main purpose is to investigate the mediating role of strategic flexibility in the relationship between distributed leadership and business model innovation, emphasizing the moderating role of environmental dynamics. Based on the dynamic capabilities approach, we seek to examine the effects of distributed leadership patterns through strategic flexibility on business model innovation in a dynamic environment.
Methodology: This research is descriptive in terms of purpose and primary orientation. The research strategy is a survey and is based on the positivist paradigm. The research approach is deductive, and the type of research is quantitative. The study's statistical population includes senior managers of companies admitted to the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran, whose number is 240 people, using a simple random sampling method of data from the standard sample size based on the Morgan table Has been collected. The data were analyzed using the structural equation modelling method and Smart PLS3 software.
Finding: Data analysis showed that distributed leadership significantly impacts business model innovation. On the other hand, the mediating role of flexibility in the impact of distributed leadership on business model innovation was also acknowledged. Environmental dynamics as a moderating variable also positively affect the effect of distributed leadership on strategic flexibility.
Conclusion: This article significantly impacts the enrichment and development of business model innovation studies and identifies innovative antecedents. In today's dynamic and turbulent environment, distributed leadership patterns can lead to strategic flexibility of companies in the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran, stimulating innovation in these companies business models.
