Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to design a model of sustainable layers of organizational culture in sports organizations with an emphasis on the sustainable development approach.

Method: This study adopted a qualitative approach based on Glaser’s classical grounded theory methodology. The participants included directors general of provincial Departments of Sport and Youth, deputies and experts of these departments, managers and specialists in sports organizations, as well as experts in the field of organizational culture in sport with relevant scientific publications and academic contributions. Sampling began purposively and continued through snowball sampling until theoretical saturation was achieved. In total, 12 experts participated in the study, and theoretical saturation was reached after the tenth interview. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the constant comparative method through three stages of initial, focused, and theoretical coding.

Findings: The analysis resulted in the extraction of 113 initial codes, 30 focused codes, and 8 theoretical categories, including ethical factors, individual factors, economic factors, organizational factors, cultural factors, social factors, environmental factors, and government support. The findings of theoretical coding further indicated that the formation of a sustainable organizational culture in sports organizations is the outcome of the dynamic and continuous interaction among these factors within an integrated and multidimensional system.

Conclusion: The findings suggest that the establishment and continuity of a sustainable organizational culture in sports organizations require simultaneous attention to human, ethical, social, economic, organizational, environmental, and supportive dimensions.
